Summary:
AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles and Oregon State University recently formed a partnership that creates the West Coast network for ocean innovation. This collaboration draws on AltaSea’s reputation, community, and location as a center for the blue economy and Oregon State’s internationally respected oceanography and marine science programs. Through this collective effort, high-quality educational content to teach young people about the sea is publicly available at Project Blue. This digital port of resources is designed to inform and inspire with the goal of advancing an emerging blue economy through business innovation and job creation.
PMEC graduate students participated in the Project Blue@Summer program; virtually mentoring high school interns through the process of writing an ocean energy-related research paper. This volunteer effort resulted in valuable connections between the science-inclined students and their marine energy mentors, sparking curiosity and expanding knowledge about how the ocean can help us find solutions to today’s global pressing issues, including climate change.
