Educating and training the next generation of energy leaders and maritime innovators is a central part of PMEC’s mission. PMEC’s students and those inspired by PMEC’s work will be critical to the success of marine renewable energy.

Student Research & advanced Degrees

PMEC students are at the global forefront of pioneering research in marine renewable energy across the six PMEC research areas. Though PMEC is not a degree-granting institution, faculty from the individual universities teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and supervise graduate and doctoral students within their respective university departments. Learn more about how to become a PMEC student on the study with PMEC page.

The PMEC Wave Energy Education Project (under development)

Over a decade ago, Dr. Bill Hanshumaker and others developed the "Wave Energy Experiment," an educational wave energy lab for primary school students. This experiment showed students how waves in a tank can generate an electrical current. A group of OSU PMEC students extended this effort in 2020-2021 by designing a wave energy DIY project that generates a current strong enough to light an LED bulb.

Want to learn more about the latest research in marine energy? PMEC both hosts and provides experts to give educational talks on marine energy topics. To learn more, visit our Talks & Seminars page.
