UW-APL: Persistent Environmental Monitoring Near an Operational Wave Energy Converter

6 months of high-tech marine monitoring using just the power of the Hawaiian waves. That’s the accomplishment of the Wave-powered Adaptable Monitoring Package, which pulled the equivalent of 10 car batteries a day of electricity from waves to run cameras, sonar, computers, A/C, and more. A new video from University of Washington Applied Physics Lab explains this impressive accomplishment and interviews several of the PMEC/APL researchers involved in the project, which was funded by Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) and used a wave energy converter called the BOLT Lifesaver from Fred. Olsen Renewables.
