We are pleased to announce that Dr. Ted Brekken has been appointed as Director of the Pacific Marine Energy Center.

Dr. Brekken has served as the interim Director since January 2026 and as associate director since 2019, bringing deep institutional knowledge and trusted leadership to the position.

The thing I find most exciting about working with PMEC is the community of researchers. It’s a genuinely engaged and exciting group of people, showing up because they are invested in the technology, invested in the policy, and invested in the people.

– Dr. Ted Brekken, PMEC Director

Dr. Brekken is a professor in energy systems at Oregon State University, and co-director of the Wallace Energy Systems and Renewables Facility at Oregon State, where his research focuses on the control and modeling of renewable energy systems and electrical system resilience. Among his accomplishments, he has received an NSF CAREER award, the IEEE Power and Energy Outstanding Young Engineer award, and numerous teaching awards.
